Heed the call and have some fun

El Retiro San Iñigo — the St. Ignatius Retreat. The name has an air of history of this beloved Retreat Center. After almost 100 years that only makes sense. In the next year, there will be discussions about a centennial celebration in 2025. But that’s for later, not too much later, but later.

Thanksgiving is three months from now. You know what that means. It’s time for #GivingTuesday! A most important day at The Retreat Center, #GivingTuesday is an occasion to share the stories of different people who love El Retiro so much.

It’s also a time to give…time! Yes, we need volunteers to serve on our #GivingTuesday Committee which meets in September. Committee members share their ideas about what the JRC #GivingTuesday campaign should look like. This is one of the easiest committees with no more than three meetings that last less than one hour done by Zoom so participation can be from the comfort of home and hearth…or a least work and business.

JRC had successful #GivingTuesdays in 2019 and 2020 and want to hear from the community to continue that trend. Previous experience is not necessary, just ideas about launching our #GivingTuesday in 2021.

#GivingTuesday was created in 2012 as a simple idea: a day that encourages people to do good. It has grown into a global movement that inspires hundreds of millions of people to give, collaborate, and celebrate generosity.

The #GivingTuesday Committee is in line with St. Ignatius norms with a call to mature in friendship with Christ, to find God in every aspect of experience, and to live Gospel values.

Serving and heeding the call, and it’s a lot of fun!
