We at the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos wish you a very blessed Easter season.
We have lost a humble and prophetic servant in Pope Francis, who inspired us to live the Gospel’s values with faithfulness, gratitude, and joy. His enduring legacy was to model for us Christian discipleship, to live with faith and compassion, and to act with courage and integrity in striving to find God at the peripherals and frontiers.
In his extensive writings, Pope Francis encouraged us to become a missionary church for the poor. He brought joy and hope to whomever he met, always with a warm smile that welcomed people from all walks of life, especially the poor and marginalized. He touched the world with the spirit of Christ, calling us to our better selves for the sake of a world in chaos. He worked tirelessly for peace, justice, and the care for our common home. His popular and pastoral writings incorporated elements of Ignatian spirituality and the Spiritual Exercises, upon which our retreat ministry at Los Altos is founded. Pope Francis exemplified what it means to be a Christian, fully alive in the glory of God.
May the departed soul of our beloved Papa Francesco live in the eternal loving presence of Christ!
From all of us at El Retiro!
