Silent Retreat for Women and Men
Through prayer experiences that will help participants be better attuned to God's presence and action in their lives, this retreat is both a refresher for those who have been on an Ignatian mindfulness retreat at El Retiro before and an introduction for those wanting to know what St. Ignatius might have to offer those interested in mindfulness. Through mindful attentiveness, prayer sessions will aid participants in recognizing and responding to the movements of the Spirit that draw us to greater faith, hope, and love—growing in what St. Ignatius spoke of as “finding God in all things.”

Silent Retreat for Men and Women
“Lord, teach us to pray!” That request from the disciples to Jesus gave us the Lord’s Prayer, and believers have explored countless paths to encountering the Lord in prayer ever since. This silent and guided retreat introduces various styles of mental prayer utilized by St. Ignatius in his Spiritual Exercises: imagination, consideration, contemplation, meditation, and the Ignatian Examen of Consciousness. In addition to guided prayer experiences, the retreatants will have personal time to allow the Spirit to deepen the gifts received.

This retreat will probe the depths of Jesus’ message so that we might better walk in his company in the midst of our challenges so as to enter into the newness of life He promises.

The culture in the United States is one that admires youth, what is considered good looks, and high energy. As Walter Burkhardt, S.J. commented, “The only ideal of old age accepted in the U.S. is old age without limits or loss.” How does an elder navigate the prevalent “culture of youth?” How might diminishment actually be an invitation to new, unimagined chapters in one’s spiritual journey? This retreat will explore the questions of aging in light of the Ignatian vision of indifference and “letting go.”

Since the 1960s, three currents of Christian spirituality have blossomed among the faithful: Ignatian spirituality has brought the discernment of spirits and the will of God into the forefront of our lives, Contemplative spirituality has breathed new life into the search for union with God, and Charismatic spirituality has highlighted the power and gifts of the Holy Spirit. Let us spend a weekend experiencing how God can bring new dimensions into our spiritual lives through the interplay of these spiritualities.
