Our wonderful board member Jim Whitehead suggested “A hundred years ago… A hundred years to go” as the theme for the Centennial Celebration. Everyone at the Jesuit Retreat Center of Los Altos is taking that to heart.
The first Mass at the Retreat Center, known then as El Retiro San Iñigo — the St. Ignatius Retreat, was held March 15, 1925.
The Board of Directors and the Staff for the Retreat Center have been busy planning a yearlong celebration that begins April 13, 2024, with a Community Day.
That may seem like a long time, but in event planning, that is a nanosecond.
“We need help,” was the common sentiment at a recent staff meeting, so this is a Volunteer Call.
Fact Finding Fun
We have an October 31, 2023, deadline to collect data for a historical display so we are asking volunteers to commit to a couple of hours a week to help sort through the volumes of photos, old newsletters, retreat brochures and other miscellaneous items. If someone is familiar with a particular Retreat Center era, please consider joining the fact finding fun.
Docents We are seeking docents who can give tours of the grounds, facilities, and trails. We particularly need someone who has been a docent and can lead a workshop for our volunteers may know the Retreat Center but are new tour guides.
Centennial Planning Committee
Much of the planning has been done, but there is still planning to do. This committee will gather to discuss ideas and how to put those plans into action. Another group will carry out those plans.
These opportunities will be fun, and your volunteer service will be gladly received by everyone at the Retreat Center.
